Medicare is the name given to a health insurance program administered by the United States government, covering people who are either age 65 and over, or who meet other special criteria. It was originally signed into law on July 30, 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson as amendments to Social Security legislation. At the bill-signing ceremony President Johnson enrolled former President Harry S. Truman as the first Medicare beneficiary and presented him with the first Medicare card.
The general public is basically unaware that Medicare will not pay for everything. That is why purchasing a Medicare Supplemental insurance policy is so important. Medicare Supplemental Insurance (also known as Medigap) is a form of insurance designed by private insurance companies to fill in the gaps in Medicare Insurance.
There are twelve types of policies. I believe that supplemental medicare insurance is very important. It is essential that someone contemplating obtaining coverage make the correct decision in selecting the most appropriate plan and/or supplemental insurance.
