A lawsuit is a civil action brought before a court in which the party commencing the action, the plaintiff, seeks a legal remedy. One or more defendants are required to respond to the plaintiff's complaint. If the plaintiff is successful, the Court will render judgment to the plaintiff.  The Court may issue a wide range of orders, including enforcing a right, awarding damages, or imposing an injunction to prevent an act or compel an act. The Court may issue a declaratory judgment to prevent future legal disputes or recognize a right or obligation of one or all parties to the litigation.
